Why Republicans Will Be Crushed in the 2024 Election

The mostly old, white, men in the Republican Party are not only out of touch with the vast majority of the American people, they are out of touch with the American voter. The 2018 and 2020 were driven by two demographics; neither of which support the right-wing extremists who continue to call themselves the “Grand Old Party.”

In the last two elections; the midterm and the recent general election; two demographics controlled the results in multiple states. Women are no longer sitting back and ignoring the importance of our elections. Nor are they voting according to the instructions of their husbands or significant others.

The 2018 midterm was not a “blue wave” as political pundits referred to it. It was a “pink wave.” There were more women registered to vote and more women were candidates in local, state, and federal elections. Women led the effort to register more voters. Their efforts succeeded. The most demonstrative outcome was that more women were elected to congress than at any other time in history.

Joining them were younger voters. The largest single demographic in our nation is “millennials.” Together with their younger brothers, sisters, and friends, they showed up at the polls in record numbers.

The 2020 general election experienced an historical voter turnout. As the count continues, nearly 155 million men and women voted before or on November 3, 2020.

Women continued to be activists, but even more younger voters, many of color, spearheaded the efforts in several states according to the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE).

Young people, especially youth of color, were critical to the Biden-Harris victory in key battleground states like Georgia and Arizona, where Black and Latino youth may have single-handedly made Biden competitive.

“For example, in Georgia, which Biden narrowly flipped, an estimated 188,000 more young voters backed Biden than chose President Donald Trump. Notably, that vote margin overwhelmingly came from youth of color: 90% of Black youth supported Biden in Georgia while 62% of young white voters supported Trump.” This reported by the Daily Kos.

This election was as “American” as it gets. This election was not controlled by white people. Diverse Americans chose the man who will lead us for the next four-eight years. While Trump attempted to destroy our nation and our democracy for four years, the people revolted and rid our nation of the worst thing to ever happen to it.
