Yes it was an Historical Election, but do you Know Why or How?
The effort to “get out the vote” began on January 21, 2017 with the Woman's March on Washington. Across America women of all races and origins began to encourage every eligible American to register and vote in the 2018 midterms. But they didn't stop there. Their efforts would not cease with the single goal of removing the most immoral man in our nation from the White House. History proves that a large voter turnout favors Democrats. They receive the credit for making younger Americans realize that their future depends on the result of elections.
Trump's failure to lead our nation against the coming pandemic in January played a huge part in this election. First, many Americans were voting against Trump. He continues to ignore that fact that he is the reason the United States, which contains approximately four-and-one-half percent of the world's population, leads the world in the number of deaths, 257,016, and cases, 12,333,452. To this day the mentally deficient man defiling the White House claims that “one day, it will just go away.” This led to an historical mail-in vote total and proved that making it easier for all Americans to vote will increase the turnout.
Although we witnessed celebrities and athletes encouraging everyone to vote on television, what most Americans, especially all-white Americans, are unaware of are the efforts of specific groups to increase voter participation in the 2020 election.
Let's begin with Georgia.
Georgia was labeled as a “red state.” So how did Biden win the Peach State's popular and electoral votes? The answer is black women.
Let by Stacey Abrams, black women were relentless in their encouragement of black voters to go to the polls. Fulton County, which contains Atlanta, was solid for Biden. It helped that the late Congressman John Lewis represented the state's largest city for about 40 years.
Now let's look at Arizona.
Arizona was expected to favor Trump. However, Native Americans made the election their number one priority. There are 22 individual tribes in Arizona, and getting them to work together for a common cause took an enormous amount of effort. Historically, activists who are men and women of color are underfunded. Sadly, money continues to win elections.
The “Daily Kos” is an activist blog which has proven to be a force for liberals. Organizers in Arizona report that donations from Americans who support the Daily Kos were critical in their efforts to encourage Native Americans to go to the polls.
Trump and his hypocritical party remain shocked that not only did Biden win Georgia and Arizona, he was competitive in Texas and Florida.
One final note, which I will repeat until Washington consents to two mandatory changes which will save democracy in the future.
First, the Electoral College must be repealed. Regardless of arguments you might hear, pro or con, only one fact matters: the people, not states, should elect the President of the United States. Every vote in every state should count. We must eliminate “red and blue” states.
Second, term limits for congress must become a reality. Moscow Mitch McConnell is the poster boy for this necessary change. On November 3rd he won a seventh term; this is ridiculous. He will be 84 at the end of his term; much too old to represent the people of Kentucky or the people of our nation. The average age of all Americans is 38.1 year's old. He created the “party of no,” and is the reason our government is dysfunctional. As the leading hypocrite in the Republican Party, he bowed to Trump for four years after denouncing him during the 2016 campaign.
All real Americans will celebrate January 20, 2021 when Trump and his circle of sinners, including his Klan, are evicted from the White House.
